2010

without comments

My blog has served me throughout the years as a getaway medium. I've found comfort writing its pages, and more recently, writing a little bit more of my technical life and whereabouts. The personal side of it, in spite of being very well handled in the past, has been left behind in recent times. And I believe Twitter has taken that part of my postings. However, I believe that a lot of the thing I'm currently doing in my life are based on the measurable fact of the impact or weight that those actions would have on my Twitter (and Facebook for that matter) stream and contacts. This has also prevented me from developing further interests and getting deep into more interesting or worthwhile affairs. All the time spent reading and watching what others are doing, what I'm not doing and show what I do or pretend I'm doing has affected social relationships of mine and, as said, damaged, my growing or professional aspiring persona, that it even hurts deep down.

2010 marks the beginning of a lot of stuff and new plans, as usual. But it also marks the end of that ill poison I'm usually infected with. I want to grow up and move on to more interesting matters, retake the life I'm supposed to live and spend with the people I deserve.

Here, then, is for 2010.

Living supercentenarians

without comments

The fact that in a few years, we might not have a single person on this planet that was born in the 1800s (or before January 1st, 1900), makes me sad and depresses me.

Living supercentenarians.

Yes, those are twenty-five hands. As of yesterday 8/8, I turned 25. Thanks to all of you who shouted out on Facebook, Twitter or elsewhere.

Oh, the ephemeralness of time; adulthood, a low-hanging fruit now.

Back from Spain

without comments

We got back from Spain yesterday. It was a nice overall vacation experience but a little too long for our own style and like, specially after spending two weeks in Mexico City. Lots of photos (at least some) are on our Flickr and some more on my TwitPic.

I couldn't be happier to be back in New York.

  • Personal stuff coming up; if you are not that kind of person, please skip :-)
  • I forgot to say on my previous post about YAPC::NA 2008 that while I was in Chicago, I had the really nice chance to meet Carlo Segre and Dirk Eddelbuettel and enjoy a couple of nice beers with them. Great guys!
  • I'm probably not attending DebConf this year. It's just too expensive right now and since sponsorship appears to be not enough, chances for me are quite low now. The cheapest I can get from NYC is around $1050/1100, which might be cheap for some folks in Europe which paid the same amount in Euros, but not for me now.
  • I'm not attending OSCON neither. I wanted to, I really did, but it'll have to be next year now, because…
  • On that days, I'll be in Mexico City with Raquel renewing our visas. Almost one year already since we got here, time flies.
  • Last Friday (Fourth of July), we were invited by Mike and Rachel O'Connor to a barbeque at their place in Brooklyn. Even though they are veggies, they had some meat sausages and burgers which were great (also the grilled corn!). We watched the fireworks from their roof, which I have to say, weren't as spectacular as I expected, but it was probably because we weren't very, very close to Manhattan or because a big building was blocking our view in front of us, or because of the rain. A bunch of their friends were also there. I enjoyed spending time with them and Mr. Micah Anderson and Sr. Abraham Estrada. By the way…
  • There will be a Debian NYC BSP very soon now! Stay tuned! Represent! :P
  • I've been playing more chess that it should be legal, as some of you may have already realized.
  • I gave myself a present and bought a PSP. I now do alley-oops, slam dunks and all kind of dribbles on NBA Live 2008 on my morning commute ;-)
  • And last; for my personal workstation, I'm trying now Ubuntu Hardy and I'm doing a personal project with Rails. I have to say that even though I had some encountered feelings about both of them, I've been having quite a nice surprise and experience with both.

Debo, no niego

  • We took a chance and traveled to Boston during the weekend. We met there with Mario Carrión, Mauro Parra and some other friends. It is a beautiful city, we walked on Boston Commons, Newbury St and got up to the Prudential Building, it was a quick visit. We also wandered around the MIT. Boston has the kind of charming touch you (or at least I) cannot find in New York City anymore. Fifteen bucks for each ride on the Fung Wah Bus (a Chinatown one), it was nicely cheap but utterly awful.
  • Even though this was Memorial Day weekend, we stayed most of the Monday at our place. It was nice to have a day off.
  • I'm traveling to Mexico City again this next weekend to attend the wedding of Christian and Susan in Cuernavaca, who were in NYC two weeks ago. Depart on Friday, back on Sunday (all hungover, I bet).
  • My Infinite Pig Theorem blog is back and live again. And lots and lots of pics on Flickr, go watch 'em now, go!
