My ten wishes for 2007

without comments

These are my ten wishes for 2007. Since Santa didn't arrive in this part of the world, I think I'm asking this to the Three Wise Men (in spite of they were brought here by the Spanish catolicism, but hey):

  1. Dignity, land and respect to the Mexican indigenous groups.
  2. Return and good health for Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro.
  3. Strongest antineoliberalism in the Latin American region.
  4. Right wing oppression brought down in Bolivia.
  5. Good year socially, economically and politically to Nicaragua with its new hope.
  6. An even better year in Cuban trades; they were the best growing economy in Latin America by exporting to South America and China.
  7. Stop to the free trade agreement and military bases with the US in Ecuador.
  8. Peaceful solution to the Colombia-Ecuador border conflict.
  9. Democracy established in some of those countries where it's more needed, like Central America.
  10. More social successful programs in Venezuela.

And my bonus one:

  • Peace from Río Grande all the way down to Tierra del Fuego.

Ecuador heads to free software

without comments

On his recent (and first) visit to Ecuador, Richard Stallman interviewed with elected president Rafael Correa. Stallman spoke about the benefits and advantages that free software would bring to Correa's administration. Some of the Ecuadorian free software community members were present and they reported that Correa listened to Stallman for like 20 minutes without replying. Then they agreed on freedom issues and had a conversation where they agreed on everything. After that, president Rafael Correa asked his assistants if Ecuador could migrate to free software (on being viable) and they replied that of course, that'd be a wise choice.

These are, of course, excelent news for Ecuador itself and Latin America! Congratulations yuntas!

Leftist Rafael Correa won on a 2-round election held on Oct 15th and Nov 20th. He will get into office on January 5th.

The Killers

without comments

We

'll be attending The Killers' concert tonight. I'm not completely fan of their synthesized-rock-indie music, but she likes them so much and she made me dig their last album, Sam's Town, like a thousand times in the car; so I acceded and bought the tickets online. She was even jelaous of a friend who is also attending, heh :)

I wasn't happy at all since they are still a more or less new band, they only have two albums released and prices for tickets were high as hell (ironic), but her surprise smile worth it, it definitively does. ;)

Augusto Pinochet dies

without comments

(Translated from my same post in Spanish)

A few days ago, McDonald published a cartoon on the end of the dictator Pinochet.

FINOCHET (fin meaning "end"). Damn heart, it had to be on the left.

Yesterday, fascist dictator Augusto Pinochet died in the Military Hospital in Santiago, after heart and lung diseases, being 91 years old. Now, current president Michelle Bachelet, a moderate socialist, in case Pinochet is given State memorials, could be attending the ceremony (in a predominantly conservative country as Chile), even after she was tortured and persecuted under the dictatorship and his father was murdered under the regimen, after serving Salvador Allende' government.

Shitty life, huh?

Viva Chile!, just as the ironman stated.

Muere Augusto Pinochet

without comments

Races and classes

without comments

I've enjoyed reading Richard Gott' article named Latin America is preparing to settle accounts with its white settler elite, where he goes deeply on how the recent political movements in the region has been marked more on lineage and classism than in anything else. Read the article in English here, or in Spanish, here (thanks to Rebelión).

A 26 años de la muerte de John

without comments
